There were 5 vacant seats and 5 candidates. All 5 got elected. 2/n
Since there was no competition, number of votes didn’t matter as long as they were over a simple majority of 97. India got 188 votes which is one vote more than Fiji which had 187. 3/n
This is the 5th time that India has been elected to UNHRC since the council was formed in 2006. In 2006, 2007, 2011, 2014 and 2018. 4/n
Existing members from Asia Pacific regional group that India & the newly elected members will join are Afghanistan, China, Iraq, Japan, Nepal, Pakistan, Qatar and Saudi Arabia. It is a 3yr term. 5/n
