Yeah. I listen to a lot of podcasts about cults (both religious and secular), and the universal feature in their recruitment is their pursuit of the lonely and vulnerable, which, given the right circumstances, anyone can be.
It's the same requirements-- insecurity, feeling isolated and impotent, etc.-- that pulls people into just about every extremist believe system, from neo-Nazis to the Oneida colony.
Honestly, when a person is broken down and searching enough, who and what they wind up devoting their lives to can be as simple as who gets to them first.

Which is why so many cult recruiters haunt places like support groups, halfway houses, rehabs, hospitals, etc.
