HUGE NEW GALLUP POLL:

Solidly two-thirds of Americans now say it is time to make marijuana legal.

Cannabis legalization enjoys U.S. support by a more than two-to-one margin of 66% - 32%.

That's a supermajority.

Republican support for legal marijuana is rising, with 53% now on board - a 2-point bump from last year.

GOP opposition to legalizing cannabis also dropped 4 points from 2017 -- a 6-point net swing in Republican attitudes toward marijuana over 12 months.

Legal marijuana support is also at an all-time-high among Democrats—75 percent—and independents, who are on board to the tune of 71 percent.

Regional differences in cannabis attitudes cannabis are dissipating. People on East Coast are now slightly more likely to back legal marijuana than those out West, with all areas of the country favoring the policy change at roughly the same rate.

Favorability since 2015:
“Since February 2016, shortly after Sanders' victory in the New Hampshire Democratic primary, his positive ratings began regularly outpacing his negative ratings by double digits, and majorities of Americans have viewed him favorably since June 2016.”
Whoa. After Sanders' advocacy of progressive views on the 2016 campaign trail and in the 2yrs since, Gallup found:

“Democrats now view socialism more favorably than they do capitalism.”

(GOP negativity re socialism pulls the country’s numbers into unfavorable range, though.)

I’ve never seen a campus voter drive like this. @KrishAlexander, @NextGenAmerica organizer at UW-Parkside, has a team of volunteers who’ve collected more than 800 voter pledge cards like this one. Tomorrow, they’ve got early vote shuttles running continuously starting at 8am.
16 Wisconsin counties and two cities—home to half of WI voters—have advisory ballot initiatives on medical marijuana or cannabis legalization. Surveys suggest 56% of voters who know about them will be more likely to vote because of them. And overwhelming majorities will vote yes.

My Latest.

In many states where marijuana is now "legal," marijuana related arrests of African Americans & Latinos have actually INCREASED - dramatically in many instances.

What we're seeing is that racism is deeply baked even into these new "reforms."

THREAD on the problematic rollout of the "legalization" of marijuana from coast to coast. In short, it's absolutely being done for the economic advancement of white people while the criminalization of everyone else still remains.

The more I dug, the more disturbed I got.
1. So, get this...

Recreational marijuana use is now "legal" in 9 states + DC.

Another 14 states have "decriminalized" recreational marijuana use.

29 states have now legalized varying forms of medical marijuana.

That seems like a lot more progress than it truly is....
