They don’t think they’re stupid, they KNOW they’re racist and xenophobic.
I said this in 2016 and will keep saying it until it sinks in. LEARN THE SOUTHERN STRATEGY, it’s the *only* strategy the GOP’s had for 50+ years now and it works b/c mainstream White fragility refuses to believe that racism shapes American politics.
YES, they are fearmongering about Latino/Muslim refugees/immigrants 2 weeks before an election. How the fuck else do y’all expect the 90+% White GOP to rally its racist base? 🤷🏾♀️ What the fuck else do they even have to offer the deplorables but a culture war? Not a damn thing.
They haven’t quelled the “economic anxiety” of the White working class or mitigated the detrimental impacts of Trump’s trade war or the GOP’s tax cuts for the wealthy. They have NOTHING to show for their last ~2 years of governance but hatred, division and dysfunction.
They haven’t brought coal back or fixed our roads and bridges. They haven’t achieved their goal of repealing Obamacare but instead are pretending they GAF abt pre-existing conditions. Their “leader” is aiding/abetting Saudi terrorists who killed an American resident. FAIL on 💯.
The only thing GOP elected officials have delivered to their voters is a steady stream of hatred, racism, misogyny and xenophobia as cover for the fact that they haven’t done a damn thing socioeconomically to make America great or even halfway decent. Deplorable is ALL they have.
Deplorable is all they’ve had ever since they used the Southern Strategy to elect Nixon. Their economic policies have consistently favored only the 1% and they spark a recession EVERY SINGLE TIME they control the government. Don’t ever expect more from them, they don’t have it.
The GOP knows their voters expect nothing more from them but a heavy dose of White rage and resentment at election time. They aren’t running on a legislative record, they’re running on hatred. The only campaign promise they’re under any pressure to keep is White supremacy.
This is why Trump’s closing argument for the 2018 midterm is simply just declaring himself a White Nationalist. It got him installed the first time and he has nothing else to stand on legislatively, so there you fucking have it. Stop feigning shock.
The Republican Party is boldly (and repeatedly) declaring that ALL it has left to offer America and the world is hatred, greed, stupidity and bellicosity. The White American majority that keeps electing them is doing the same. I can’t say it any plainer than that.
Bottom line is folk need to stop giving the GOP the benefit of doubt that its been waging a determined race/culture war in this country for decades. The GOP itself has proudly embraced this legacy and uses it every single chance it gets. Believe them the umpteenth time FFS.
The GOP has 3 main goals every election 1) rallying bigots 2) disenfranchising ethnic minorities 3) lying to and gaslighting White moderates to the extent that they become apathetic/avoidant and either stay home or vote 3rd party #SouthernStrategy101
It’s a testament to the power of sustained propaganda and media consolidation that by and large so many Americans remain ignorant about the role racism is playing in our politics. The truth’s been obfuscated intentionally for GOP gain.
In wedding itself to Trump, the GOP officially abandoned all pretense of not being the party of racism. Faced w/a growing non-White population/electorate they took drastic measures and revealed their true political motivations in order to salvage every White vote they could.
Because we aren’t capable of having an honest, unapologetic and sustained national conversation about the historical dangers of White supremacy and White Nationalism in this country, the radicalization of White voters precedes unchecked. This disaster was centuries in the making.
Also while so many American White people smugly dismiss the reality of their and the GOP’s racism out of hand, Putin and every other outside agitator now know FULL WELL how best to manipulate the White American voter and the entire US government as a result.
And don’t think for one second that this ploy to ignite the rage and resentment of Caucasian people stops at America’s shores, Brexit happened because of racist xenophobia and fear of a Black/Brown planet too. This is a global phenomenon.
In the era of increasing economic globalization, skin privilege is no longer the automatic lifestyle security blanket it’s always been for these people and their response to this reality is reinvigorating rampant racism and xenophobia to reassert themselves on top. Rinse, repeat.
Denying it doesn’t it make it any less true or fix the underlying problem. Neither does voting GOP.
The GOP’s completely divested from properly educating and training the White working class to compete in the 21st century American/global economy. They will never admit that folk are “coming for their jobs” b/c they’re no longer skilled enough to do them.
They also won’t admit that White privilege has rendered the WWC too uppity to even take the damn jobs they’ve empowered the GOP to outsource to undocumented immigrants on the cheap. They literally built their own obsolescence with chattel slavery and leaky borders, so Womp Womp.
Likewise they claim to be deathly afraid of Muslim terrorism yet have proudly rubber stamped every single Republican-Middle Eastern arms deal from Reagan to the Bushes to Trump, no matter how ineffectual it has made the entire Republican Party in their alleged war on terror.
They elect racist, bellicose, undiplomatic, isolationist people to office then fearmonger about the societal unrest and breakdown that occurs in nations that can’t rely on the purportedly civilized leadership of American govt to intervene way before the refugee caravans form.
America is no longer leading by example because it’s leading by White supremacy. It didn’t win the popular vote in 2016, but it won control of the government nonetheless. We have to acknowledge the dangers of the road we’re on if we truly hope to chart a safe course off of it.
ICYMI all of this means don’t be surprised when Trump campaigns in the South to remind the GOP base that he’s a White Nationalist. It isn’t a random gaffe, it’s the SOUTHERN STRATEGY for crying out fucking loud and they keep using it b/c it works.
