/ NEW: Several Texas school districts are sending students with special needs to the Shiloh Treatment Center, despite its well-documented history of abuses. revealnews.org/article/shiloh…
/ We’ve been reporting on Shiloh, and its problems, for months.

In August, we found that the facility had gotten millions of dollars from the government, despite children dying there. revealnews.org/article/federa…
/ And back in June, we first reported that migrant children had been forcibly drugged at the facility. revealnews.org/blog/immigrant…
/ A judge ordered the government to stop this practice. But lawyers for the kids say the children are *still* being medicated without proper consent.

/ Yet despite all of this, school districts have sent about 30 students with special needs to the center in the 2017-18 school year.
/ Deena Hill, a school official overseeing special education at a district that sends students to Shiloh, is related to the facility’s founder, Clay Dean Hill.
/ Clay Hill has remained a go-to provider for the Office of Refugee Resettlement, even after multiple exposés by Texas newspapers about conditions at his facilities. houstonchronicle.com/news/article/F…
/ In 2007, Deena Hill recommended that Alan Fowler’s autistic son attend classes at Shiloh. “At no point did she mention a damn thing of her being the niece of the owner of the place,” Fowler said.
/ School districts say they send kids to Shiloh because the Texas Education Agency maintains the center on its list of approved special education programs.

/ By the way, the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services decided seven years ago that it would no longer send children in state custody to Shiloh.
/ And the Texas Education Agency has had problems with Shiloh in the past. In 2014, a student recorded a video of a school aide punching an autistic boy in the face.

/ The boy’s mother said he still has trust issues with teachers and school staff. “I just don’t understand how (Shiloh) is able to be funded and still be open.”
