The Prophet (ﷺ) taught us that we can make dua anywhere, at any time, and in any situation - however, he (ﷺ) also taught us that there are certain times when we should absolutely make dua. What makes them so special?
When we make dua at these recommended times, this shows our need, our initiative, and our sincerity in front of Allah (SWT). Think of a teacher who tells his students that he’s always available to answer questions, but the best time to get help is to attend specific office hours.
A student who is in desperate need of help will absolutely show up at that time. Of course Allah (SWT) is more majestic than any human example but that’s the idea here.
The door of Allah (SWT) is always open for us but when we show up at these special times - when we sit down and raise our hands - this shows how badly we want what we’re asking for.
This initiative on our part puts our duas in a position to be accepted and puts us in a position to succeed.
Abdullah ibn Masud (R), a great Companion of the Prophet (ﷺ), informs us of one such special time to make dua. He says that the Prophet (ﷺ) used to tell his family members, “Save your needs for the next obligatory prayer.”
The Prophet (ﷺ) advised us to make our duas at the conclusion of our obligatory prayers. Just think what a level of consciousness it takes to pray our prayers, and then to sit for just 60 seconds more and make our duas instead of getting up and rushing off.
InshaAllah, this is something that we can start to implement today - right after our very next prayer. May Allah (SWT) accept our efforts. #DuaProTips
