A momentous anniversary like today’s 10-year ani of the Bitcoin white paper inevitably brings with it the full gamut of clickbait, dubious opining, and, occasionally, some meaningful observation. This is the requisite thread where I’ll track pieces that fit that last category.
2/ First, if you haven’t had a chance to read the original, start there. It’s quite a bit different than the 70+ page well designed marketing tomes that became the standard “white paper” over the ICO boom. bitcoin.org/bitcoin.pdf
3/ For the last couple weeks, @coindesk has been publishing reflections. @CharlieShrem argues in his contribution to the series that the implications of Bitcoin are beyond money but about personal liberty. coindesk.com/bitcoins-white…
4/ In a classic Vijaythread, @real_vijay echoes these arguments, saying that the impact of Bitcoin goes far beyond transferring money without a trusted intermediary. Instead, its true implications are geopolitical and still to be fully seen.
5/ Not unexpectedly, the standard take from WSJ et al is that Bitcoin hasn’t achieved its Satoshi-stated goal of being a p2p payments network. This is a reminder of 1) how much people want to deify leaders & sanctify their words; 2) why narratives matter
6/ @danheld is rounding the corner on the final piece of a massive 4-parter on the origination of Bitcoin. Thread versions:
Pt. 1 (code)
Pt 2 (timing)
Pt 3 (distribution)
Pt 4 (community) - coming today
7/ I’m sure there are more that I’ve missed or that haven’t been published yet. Please use the comments below to share your favorites - whether it’s fully essays, threads, or just a thought.
8/ There is a classic aphorism about a journey of a thousand miles starting with a single step. The best part of this anniversary is grounding ourselves in where we’ve been so that we might better understand where we’re going. Happy anniversary Bitcoin.
Missed this cool compilation from @BreakerMag - definitely worth a read.
A couple more good ones. @MartyBent shares personal reflections about the discovery of Bitcoin in the context of larger global macro shifts. mailchi.mp/25f3ed6e2dce/m…
And this, "Bitcoin at 10" by @Beautyon_ is an incredible romp through the history and discovery of Bitcoin. Must read. hackernoon.com/bitcoin-at-10-…
