I have also heard from several people on the ground on Standing Rock that turnout is heavy at all the precincts today, despite snow and high winds. In fact, two separate people have worried out loud to me about the possibility of polling places running out of ballots.
Matthew Samp of @4directionsvote tells me that two Cannon Ball residents who tried to vote at Fort Yates were told the location was out of ballots for Cannon Ball residents and they would have to go vote at the Cannon Ball site, which is about a half hour drive away.
I just spoke to a poll worker at the Porcupine Community Center @StandingRockST. They have 8 ballots left. The polls are open for another 1.5 hours. The copier is out of toner. She has requested that more ballots be brought there. #NDNativeVote
Worth noting: I've heard from two people, Phyllis Young on Standing Rock and @DaniLang_DC who is on Spirit Lake, that some non-Native voters have had trouble with ID requirements.
A lawyer for @campaignlegal who is working on the most recent lawsuit, @DaniLang_DC reports a man who is not a tribal member voted a set-aside ballot at the Warwick polling place because he did not have ID.
Important note also from @DaniLang_DC: "Even if most people get to vote this time around it’s only because the tribes...spent money they would otherwise spend on other services for their tribal members in order to get people the IDs they needed to vote."
Just to be clear, people in line before the polls close are entitled to vote. She has requested more ballots.
On turnout: official numbers not in. But OJ Semans of @4directionsvote said based on what he's seen, Turtle Mountain exceeded 2014 turnout awhile ago. @DaniLang_DC at Spirit Lake said turnout there also high. And anecdotally, @StandingRockST turnout also appears to be up.
