A cracking article that builds on a rich vein of research from 2000 onwards. The Church moved with the times from the dogma of Papal infallibility - but do Senior leaders admit fault? Has humility slipped as a leadership trait we value? Have leaders insulated themselves as above?

Or as my hero Boyd would have it do you want to BE somebody in your Service - or DO something incredible for it.
But carrying that weight of challenge is heavy, sore and cumbersome - and it comes at a price. DOING may not be accomplishing - it may be to challenge, to disrupt, to provoke - to create or force transparency in order to accelerate change. It certainly doesn’t make you popular.
But this is leadership not a popularity or conformity competition. At least that’s what we say - it may not be what we do. If the “standard we walk (scroll by) is the standard we accept” - we must be consistent - even - fair - proportionate. We must also prioritise.
defence bloggers and tweeters come under undue and misapplied regulation due to insecurity or a sense it’s better to not have that tweet in the public sphere - than risk it. We lose authenticity - a key part of veteran success in the US mid-terms for example - we become clones.
But we are people. With opinions subjectivity, objectivity and positionality on all sides. Thank goodness for that. The values that mean most to us in democracy are freedoms and morality. The eulogy values - not the CV values - self-aware not self-fulfilling, depth of character.
When does monitoring become harassment? The 4th intervention on my twitter presence in as many months. I am not racist, sexist, bigoted, a supremacist, a bully, a drinker, drug taker - I haven’t eaten at Greggs in months - yet my TL is the one that needs editing of the 000s on SM
To conclude I think there are two questions. How do we accommodate and promote (in both senses) disruption and challenge in the chain of command. Second do we teach and train ‘radical self awareness’ to avoid and check narcissist leaders? Thanks to @thearmyleader for the summary
