The WA, whatever its faults, doesn’t *add* EU law obstacles that weren’t already there.

The EU’s position is inevitable. A customs union means you can’t raise tariffs to defend yourself against your partner’s subsidised exports. So you won’t agree to a CU unless you have cast iron guarantees that there won’t be unacceptable subsidies. There’s no way round that.
There are good reasons for objecting to the WA. But @AaronBastani’s reason isn’t one of them.
