1/ $TSLA bulls are currently making fun of the $TSLAQ focus on SpaceX. Do let me explain the significance, so that at least you can't say you weren't warned. SpaceX matters because it represents that last two times Elon has tried to raise money. Let's have a look...
2/ In April of this year, SpaceX announced the intent to raise $507MM in equity - the ninth time they've tapped private venture capital since 2002 (hence 'Series I'). Elon committed to $100MM of the raise himself. $TSLA 
3/ Apparently demand for Elon's visionary genius skills wasn't so hot, with only $214MM of the deal filled (ignore the friendly headline - they're all friendly). The investor roster is a closely held secret, but rumor has it that it was filled with Elon's close associates. $TSLA
4/ If Elon did put in the committed $100MM, then of the remaining $407MM sought only $114MM was found, or 28%. Don't let the valuation fool you, this was a failed raise. $TSLA
5/ Up next we have the recent attempt to raise debt in the form of a loan from bankers. What started as a $500MM offering led by Goldman Sachs morphed strangely into a $750MM offering led by Bank of America. $TSLA
6/ How'd that loan do? They filled only $250MM at Libor + 425. Not good. Rumor has it that only four banks participated. It's only a rumor, but I'd bet a signed dollar it was Bank of America and three other parties deeply tied to Elon and/or $TSLA. I'm curious to find out.
7/ Of course, there was the usual media hoop-jumping to spin this fiasco in the most positive light possible. But make no mistake - a fiasco it was. $TSLA
8/ The last two times Elon tried to raise hundreds of millions of capital for one of his government subsidized science projects, it flopped. How's it going to go when $TSLA tries to raise billions? And immaculate quarter notwithstanding, they do need billions. Trade carefully.
