It seems like a lot of people are confused with the difference between container runtimes and firecracker. Firecracker is a virtual machine manager. Qemu is also a virtual machine manager. Katacontainers uses Qemu. I’d love to see them switch to Firecracker. :)
Qemu has a shit ton of legacy code in drivers and bios and bullshit. Firecracker is clean af.
With all the bullshit comes a large attack surface. With minimal implementations comes fewer headaches, fewer slow broken drivers for floppy disks or keyboards (who the fuck needs those).
Most virtual machine managers are a hammer that also work in desktops. In server environments why bloat when you don’t need all that. You just need to run a process isolates. That’s what firecracker is.
What is awesome about firecracker is it was built by @anliguori who maintained qemu for years. Because who else knows what legacy shit sucks about something than a person who worked on it for so long.
What I love about this thing is it has taste, very rarely do tech things have taste and it makes me sad, but this needle in a haystack is like a breath of fresh air.

Strong agree. Everyone wants actual isolation, but tbh I’m not sure k8s is the best abstraction for the job. It’s so complex and leaves so much room for error. One config gone wrong or one missed patch and it’s game over for your cluster.
You’d need to hire a perfectionist to set up your cluster perfectly and then maintain it for eternity and at that point might as well just build your own orchestrator you trust. And have a team continually pass it down.
It’s a trade-off invest in one of the few people in the world who can actually create a secure cluster or hire folks who can schedule VMs on different nodes. It’s not rocket science, just code.

If you haven't seen it "The Power of Introvert" TED talk is great, Susan Cain talks about how she forced herself to be a extrovert to blend/prove she could, but then goes into how introverts bring extraordinary talents & abilities to the world ted.com/talks/susan_ca…
It talks about how Introverts are often great leaders and managers because they let the people below them shine and are not afraid of that versus extroverts might get so excited by something they overlook other ideas.

They’ve replaced turtles with repos. It’s repos all the way down.
I’ve worked at a lot of different companies and this is the one that most closely aligns with the weird world I created for my infrastructure etc.

I know it may be futile to point this all out, but the Red Hen case (and resulting commentary) demonstrate that a lot of people don’t know the difference between prejudice and exercising judgment.

It is huge.
Prejudice is literally prejudging people based on characteristics like race, gender, sexual orientation. It is abhorrent because it judges people as a group for the harms of others.
I am completely opposed to prejudice. I strongly believe in judging people for who they are.

People often talk about the difference between the God of the Old Testament & the God of the New Testament.

Christians usually insist that there is no fundamental conflict.

But they still mostly feel the tension—and they resolve that tension in different ways.
They might, for example, say that Christ doesn’t really give us the full picture of God.

Or that Christ’s sacrifice changed God’s attitude toward us.

Or that the depictions of God evolved over time.
Part of the complexity is that the New Testament emerges out of what we would call an “Old Testament world”.

Christ is formed and shaped by the Old Testament.

And at no point does Christ or anyone else in the NT act as if they’re throwing out the OT.

Seems to be a lot of confusion about the drop in UK consumer credit growth - termed here a "credit slump" by Barclays Research
Some debt charities, such as @Money_Advice, credit growth is still too strong

The Consumer Credit Trade Assoc blames unnecessary regulation and lower lending...

But...
There hasn't been a drop in new credit extended (Really, CCTA, there hasn't - look at the detailed @bankofengland figs)

There has been a big rise in repayments of credit (this might interest you @Money_Advice )
