There is nothing inherent about autonomous vehicles that would reduce carbon emissions. If fact, they could easily make carbon emissions worse by encouraging longer commutes or empty vehicles waiting for passengers.
There's nothing in this policy about cycling or modal shifts in general. Only mention of walking is with respect to walking a dog in a park and not wanting to see litter.
Troublingly, the action plan makes no mention of the Kitchener Line in its page on transit, and only a vague general note about improving service to "bring us a closer to our vision to deliver two way, all-day GO service" #TOWRcorridor @2wadgo
I am completely underwhelmed at the province's plan to deal with transportation-related emissions - a full third of our carbon footprint.
Gone is the ~$200M earmarked for cycling infrastructure. Gone is the requirement for municipalities to eliminate or reduce parking minimums.
Our municipalities have adopted a goal of an 80% reduction in emissions by 2050. That's 5% a year.

The province won't save us. We're going to need to make sure every land use policy and transportation investment we make helps knock off another 5% per year.
