November 2018 🇺🇸 automotive sales figures are being reported. Is the US auto industry still weathering a storm? Are fossil Sudan sale still plummeting in the new era of the EV? Follow along:
2)
Honda Reports sales of 120,534 Down 9.5% from Nov 2017. Honda Civic, and Pilot and MDX taking the largest hits. Accord holding the line Toe to Toe with Camry and Model 3 in the Mid Sized Sedan market, but down 12.7% in YTD volume.
3)
Toyota Sales are relatively flat in 2018. But buyers are fleeing the Fossil power car offerings. Corolla (-10%) Camry (-8.6%) Prius (-18.1%) are having rough years. Most notably Camry who’s the best selling Mid sized sedan in the USA is hemorrhaging sales in Nov (-29.9%)
4)
Nissan is having a rough go. Sales are down 21.6% from last Nov, and -7.9% YTD. Nissan Maxima taking an absolute beating with the arrival of the Model 3 at -59.1% in Nov, and -41.3 in 2018. Leaf sales although improving are still basically non existent.
5)
Ford Motors is still showing troubling signs with the failed bet on Fossil engines. Sales are down 6.9% and the high margin Truck and SUV sales are also taking a hit. Mustang, the only car going forward and is no longer American muscle choice, down -27% in Nov.
6)
FCA sales rose in Nov 17% bringing 2018 YTD up 8% so far. Unfortunately “FAIT” keeps pushing large displacement engines, 300 (55%) Charger (21%) Challenger (30%) & Ram (42%) which will likely crash with little to no warning near term as the consumer transitions from Fossils.
7)
Volvo Sales for Nov are up 4% and 25% in 2018. Volvo is introducing many in Model refreshes and added a small XC40 to the line up.
8)
BMW Car sales are still suffering in Nov (-8.8%) and most notably 3-series in the ongoing slaughter from Tesla attack (-47.9%). Interesting in that BMW’s whole line up, almost equates to Tesla’s monthly volume, which comprises of only three models.
9)
Mercedes-Benz Sales are down 3.7% in Nov, and -5% in 2018. While C-Class -(-24.4), E-Class (-9.9), S-Class (-1.5), and GLS-Class (-34) are still taking a beating in 2018 on Tesla’s home turf.
10)
VW sales are down 8% in Nov, with cars being down 15% and -30% YTD. Golf family being hit hardest -42% in Nov and -38% in 2018. consumers are still not accepting low range compliance cars with e-golf sales down 65% on 2018.
11)
Audi sales are flat for 2018, and down 11% in Nov. The A4 and A5 had a strong start to 2018 but in Nov the slaughter brought on by Tesla’s Model 3 is still painful, -45% and -46% respectively.
12)

Mazda who famously doesn’t view EV’s as either important or “Zoom Zoom” is becoming a one trick pony, over 50% of all vehicles sold in November were CX-5, which grew 20% in all of 2018. What happens to Mazda USA now that Kona, Niro, and soon Model Y enter the market?
13)
Subaru sales are performing well in 2018 up 5.3% and 9.8% in November alone. Crosstrek (which I own) is having a stellar year up 36% and in fact is Subaru’s 3rd best selling Model in 2018. Outback/Legacy historically known for AWD and 5 star safety taking a big hit.
14)
InsideEV’s estimating Model 3 at 18650, S at 2750, and X at 3200, for a Total of 24,600. Placing Tesla ahead of Volvo (8K), Mazda (21K)), possible Jaguar Land Rover (USA #’s not released) and just behind BMW (32K) and Daimler (33K). Model 3 selling 114K units in 2018 alone.
