Lots of people are dunking on the NYTimes for their poorly worded headline on this story (which seems to have now been changed). Fair enough, but don't let that stop you from reading or listening to it. It's a very important, well-told story. nytimes.com/2018/12/13/pod…
A key takeaway for me is the extent to which the mainstream GOP was complicit with (if not responsible for) the right wing takeover of their party.
Whenever a moderate Republican decries the rise of the alt-right, ask them where they stood in 2009 when the mainstream GOP dogpiled the Obama DOJ & FBI to shut down their efforts to keep track of right wing extremism, calling it "discrimination and harassment" of conservatives.
Correction: it is the DHS monitoring of right wing extremism that was discussed in this piece.
