Most importantly: US institutions, once thought of as the ultimate example of how government should function, are being tested to their breaking point. Vladimir Putin cannot believe his success.
No, most sanctions have not been lifted. We armed Ukraine. You can point to those as instances of being “tough on Russia” - but Putin’s long term dreams of rebuilding Mother Russia are being aided by the President. Putin’s long term has become imminent thanks to Trump and co.
