The two things are connected:

1. Indictment of Flynn associates' for work as agents of Turkey.

2. President Trump's attempted obstruction of FBI investigation into Flynn's activities.

On March 22, 2017, Trump reportedly asked Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats and CIA Director Pompeo, in a private conversation, to intervene with Comey to get the FBI to stop investigating Flynn.

By late March 2017 (indeed well before Jan 20, 2017), the White House knew Flynn was under investigation for secret work on behalf of Turkey.

In early March, 2017, Flynn retroactively files as a foreign agent of the government of Turkey.

As I wrote last year, "It is hard to believe that the Flynn filings of his Turkey work were not on the minds of the White House when they engaged in efforts later that month to try to get other intelligence officials to intervene with Comey to drop the Flynn investigation"
