Gowdy asks Comey what he meant when he affirmed to President Trump on Feb. 8, 2017 that their conversation was "private." Comey says he thought it meant it was just the two of them in the room. Gowdy basically implying Comey misled Trump.

Comey goes on to draft a memo about the "private" conversation and shares it with senior FBI leadership.

Comey confirms that he didn't contact AG Loretta Lynch or then-president Obama after Obama said on national television, as the Clinton-email probe was ongoing, that Clinton "merely committed a mistake."

Gowdy's questioning line converges on a single point–why did Comey publish private conversations with Trump to not impact an investigation, yet did not inform his staff to not be impacted by public comments from Obama that could impact an investigation?

Gowdy presses Comey on whether Flynn was under investigation. Comey repeatedly refuses to answer.

Comey admits he had access to "classified facts" about Flynn which were at odds with Flynn's statement to VP Pence.

(Smells like FISA, especially given that Gowdy just brought up FISA a few questions earlier.)

Comey says there are two reasons why Flynn was not advised that lying to the FBI is a crime. Then he gives three.

After Trump asked Comey to tell the American people their president was not under investigation, Comey relayed the request to the Acting AG Dana Boente. When Boente was contacted about making the fact public he said "Oh, God, I was hoping that would go away."

Rep. Ratcliffe reads out a June 28, 2016, email which discusses emails between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama in possession of the FBI. The emails were part of a briefing on the day before June 27, 2016 -- the day of the tarmac meeting between AG Lynch and Bill Clinton.

Comey says the dates were coincidental. The meeting was not about the tarmac incident.

Gowdy's line of questioning exposes another contrast in Comey's behavior: he took steps to make sure a special counsel was appointed when he suspected that Trump DOJ wasn't objective, but didn't do so when he suspected the Obama DOJ.
