It would take the equivalent of almost four Diablo Canyon nuclear power plants to charge electric airplanes equal those currently flying out of LAX.

I did the same calculations for a local gas station pumping 200,000 gallons of gas and 700,000 gallons of diesel fuel per month. It would take a dedicated 30-40 MWs to replace that fossil fuel with electricity.

Now think about how much baseload generation (coal, nuclear, hydro) and infrastructure expansion there will have to be on the grid.

@Ocasio2018 5) Renewables and green energy aren't up to the task of replacing the energy density of fossil fuels being used. It's not even arguable!

@Ocasio2018 6) The MISO footprint alone is currently running at 74,000 MW, so just eight airports like LAX would double the MISO load. That's not even counting any ground transportation electrical energy equivalent!

MISO can peak over 120k MW!
