Largest Indian cities in 1891

28 towns above 100K
2 of the 28 in present Myanmar, 2 in present Pakistan, rest in India

6 of the top 10 towns in the list are still in the top 10 as of 2011!
Remarkable continuity
To put things in perspective, 1881 (10 years prior to the census), there were already 20 towns in the United Kingdom with a population of 100K, as opposed to 28 in India - a country 10 times as big
The largest town in UK (and the world) in 1881 - London, had a population of 3.8MM, over 4 times as big as the largest town in India in 1891 - Bombay with 0.8MM
Liverpool with a population of 550K in 1881 was larger than any town in India at the time except Bombay and Calcutta.

Today Liverpool's population is under 1MM (893K), and there are atleast 50 towns in India larger than Liverpool (as of 2011)

Sanskrit, like Latin / Greek, is one of the few truly cosmopolitan languages. You could be Abhinavagupta from Kashmir, or yAmunAcArya from Srirangam - the language is the same

Perhaps the only Indian language that transcends geography and ethnicity
Secondly - Sanskrit makes nearly all of Indian intellectual history accessible to you, which would otherwise be shrouded

There is no way to understand the evolution of Indian thought without knowing Sanskrit

The "Progressive" conceit in matters of religion is often annoying

Did the makers of modern India provide "proper philosophical explanations" to justify their choice of "universal adult franchise", or "westminster-like parliamentary system" when they wrote the Constitution?

No
Eg - Why did we not opt for a phased transition to universal franchise?

Why did we not consider an upper house similar to the American Senate with direct elections?

Why did we end up with a sinecure "President" as head of state?
I don't have good answers to these questions, and don't have strong opinions either way

Maybe the right choices were indeed made

But the point is - the debates really did not happen on these crucial issues, nor was the process of ratification as democratic as it could have been

Videos like these are incredibly precious pieces of cricket history, and also very useful as pedagogical tools

These are not highlights, but ball-by-ball recordings from the distant past

Much to learn and observe here - one of Sachin's finest ODI knocks

Highlights tend to focus on the boundaries and sixes, and the odd sensational delivery and ofcourse the dismissals

In the process they don't reveal the messiness of the past, but merely romanticize it
For eg - We have this almost mythical notion of Sachin Tendulkar smashing Shane Warne all over the park and dominating him in India

While that is in part true, watching ball-by-ball recordings reveals a more nuanced picture

Entrance is likely derived from arched torana with concentric arches, space between them is beautifully decorated with scrollwork and floral patterns. #Gandhara
Dome of the temple was capped by Kalasha.

Fortunately there are various temples same features which survived the wrath of Islamic invaders. See the one in below link

1/ Manu (The progenitor of Humankind)
All different races of Mankind are derived from Manu and Shradha. The current Manu is Vaivasvata Manu.
2/ The word Manu literary means man but it is a title given to the progenitor of mankind. According to Hindu Puranas there are many kalpas (One day of Lord Brahma the creator) and each Kalpa has 14 manvantara and each manvatara has one manu. So basically each Kalpa has 14 Manus.
3/ The current manu of the present manvantara is Shraddhadeva or Vaivasvata Manu of this current Kalpa. He is the son of Vivasvat (Probably Surya) and is therefore also known as Manu-vaivasvata.
