Some of you think I'm subtweeting Nassim Taleb here. I'm definitely not. If I was trying to psychologically deconstruct why Taleb doesn't believe IQ is valid or important construct, I don't think humility, intellectual or otherwise, would be my first explanation!
I do not dismiss IQ scepticism purely because of motivation. Nor have I implied anything wrong w @nntaleb. In his original IQ thread Taleb questioned motivations and intelligence of IQ endorsers many times. I just said Taleb isn't humble, and he isn't.
p.s. I had dinner with Nassim once and told him he was much nicer in person than on twitter, where he came across as an asshole. He was totally good humored about that characterization. He basically said that you can afford to be nice in person because it's just bullshit.

Nonsense is the belief the scientific endeavor can discover nothing true about human nature but simultaneously believing that we can understand culture and harness it to improve the human condition. Culture is an outgrowth of our animal nature rather than an outside cause.
Nonsense is marveling at the hubris of humanity, endorsing environmental harmony but rejecting the insights that seeing humans as animals provides - the only insights to improve our condition. Denigrating the capitalism which has harnessed our animal self interest for benefit.
Nonsense is rejecting the alteration of the biology of our species, rejecting the notion of intelligence. Rejecting gene editing and integration with technology that would improve us as a species because we want to signal we are good, a signaling that is itself deeply primitive.

Another big Brexit lie floating around: TM's deal will let the Government get on with domestic priorities.

Absolute codswollop! After Brexit Day, the REAL negotiations start, the ones that will dictate our actual (as opposed to wished-for) future relationship with the EU. And
there's the pesky matter of negotiating with the rest of the world too, because the end of transition will be on us in the blink of an eye.

Generations from now, people will probably still be haggling over aspects of Brexit. TM's deal is the starting pistol, not the finish line.
Think about how bad the Government has been at negotiating so far. Are they suddenly going to get ten times better at it? Are pigs on the runway, awaiting clearance to take off?

Reality is all Brexit, all the time. Domestic concerns won't get a look in.

(1) Another thing Communists did to us:

- They wanted us to do things only for ourselves, and actually look upon others with animosity.
- They wanted us to destroy the family, replacing it with slavery to the government.
(2) Look at the above two points, and figure out what that does to inheritance.

- They convinced baby boomers that their children should have to suffer, not have any financial means to live or own a home or have children or have a family.
(3) They actually convinced baby boomers that it is BAD to give their children inheritance. BOTH @AandGShow's Joe AND Jack complained as soon as they read it's becoming more common for children to consider it theft when their parents spend too much on unnecessary costly items.

People typically have high-res models of their own lives and lower-res models of other people’s. We are all born clueless with incredibly low-res models of the world - then we tweak and upgrade our models. Different people do this to different degrees depending on many variables
Cluelessness, innocence, naïveté, privilege - these are all words used to describe the condition of having a flawed and/or low-res model of the world. A child who loses their innocence is forced to develop a higher-res model of some harsh and ugly things
A common source of misunderstanding is as follows: a person experiences an increase in resolution of their own model of something that’s relevant to them. They then make a claim based on that model that extends beyond it. It might seem accurate to them!
