I love it. @geoffreyamoore's excellent response to my original chasm piece. Does a great job clarifying the idea space. In some places we agree (and some we disagree). But wonderful comments throughout.
I broadly agree with the post, except the following which is simply no longer true:

"incumbents have neither the means nor the interest to block a chasm-crossing play because they cannot operate at the small scale involved"

Open Source and Cloud have changed the dynamic here.
Incumbents have trashed entire early sectors by releasing open source or free services. The rational for them may be defensive (protect a larger product line), to aid marketing (stay relevant), or simply for recruiting. And it doesn't require large investment for real impact.
