One also wonders why a former congressman and CNN commentator can be so profoundly ignorant about how the economy works today.
All these white dudes rail against "affirmative action," but Jack Kingston is getting paid to have takes like these and yap on CNN as if the "conservative activist"-industrial complex isn't a shameless grift
"Lol she went to a good school why is she poor" is what passes for edgy conservative intellectualism today, and these clowns have the gall to proclaim we live in a meritocracy.

As a male historian, I know I can and should do more to fight sexism and misogyny in our field, and in academe. We all have to, because it is intolerable that some of the people who are doing *great* work, and who are *great* scholars and colleagues, are being treated like this
I hope this post challenges you, as it did me, to think very hard about what more you can do to fight this. Start by believing women, and continue by being an ally and a voice when needed. The whole time, don't be like the people in this article's cases.

I had a tweet of mine go viral and I noticed some things.

First, I had surprisingly few toxic fuckheads show up and do all their M A G A bot bullshit at me. I mean, don't get me wrong, I had assholes roll up, but usually it's a lot more. Some days I tweet "I like cupcakes" and if it gets 100 RTs, the shit-whistlers and bots swarm.
(Note too that I get a fraction of what women and LGBT and POC and disabled users get on here. Privilege is a passive defense system, always.)
