Results of past few elections suggest the country is so divided over Brexit that a General Election is extremely unlikely to provide any party a 'mandate' for any particular deal or Brexit outcome. I would prefer a #peoplesvote to decide between a final deal and remaining
Or, alternatively, a national unity government which could genuinely reflect (perhaps with a Royal Commission or similar) a broad range of views on Brexit, and negotiate accordingly
I just don't see what a General Election "over Brexit" would accomplish *for Brexit", as it wouldn't be a clear choice for the electorate *over Brexit*. It may be over social policy etc but Labour couldn't offer any kind of alternative deal without having negotiated one
I have no issue with Labour using Brexit as a reason to prompt the GE they want for other reasons (to implement their social policies etc) but I just don't see the logic of saying it is about Brexit and that this would be a better way of resolving the impasse than a #peoplesvote
