Chief Justice of Nigeria, Onnoghen is now compromised, if head of judiciary in his own words forgot to obey the law, timing of prosecution may not be politically correct but he now has a moral burden, the embarrassment is a tragedy, no one will win, not PDP not APC not Nigeria.
A lesson for all concerned, all the political gladiators in Nigeria. When @AsiwajuTinubu was hauled before the code of conduct by the @GEJonathan govt I criticised the South West governors for making a jamboree of the trial by storming the court in Abuja. I called it a mockery.
5 South South Governors are now dancing naked with the case of Chief Justice of Nigeria, Onnoghen the way the South West Governors danced with the @AsiwajuTinubu trial, even in the darkest of moments, leaders should learn to put our institutions first and politics second.
For so long we have mocked our criminal justice system, ALL parties are guilty, if PDP had aggressively pursued corrupt opposition members and APC had done the same, the ruling elite would have cancelled corrupt elements out. If your hands are soiled don’t play with a white linen
If the govt had decisively, aggressively dealt with the case of indicted members of government, the scream of bias would have been limited, we all had to scream before the grass cutter in the villa had to be booted out, lessons should be learnt going foward by all.
Activists must also learn, if an individual feel they have been slandered and they go to court, you should stop bullying them on social media for using the instrument of the law to seek redress, to strengthen our judiciary it needs to be tested or we all resort to self-help.
If the govt has taken the wrong step of procedure in the case of Onnoghen, the govt can correct it but he should not escape justice if indeed he has broken the law, it does not matter if he’s from the South West North or East. He should not be ABOVE THE LAW so as not to 'upset'.
It is not in the interest of the opposition that Chief Justice of Nigeria, Onnoghen, should escape justice if guilty, even if it will serve their political interest, what should be uppermost is a fair trial, demand that government should not abuse the judicial process.
It does not also matter who brought the petition to the attention of authorities, the opposition should learn from this, dig into members of the government and bring out actionable evidence. To scream DO NOT PROCECUTE is a disservice to so called institutions we want to protect.
Onnoghen himself can save us all the embarrassment by coming out clean on how he forgot to obey the laws he vowed to protect considering all the struggle that went into his appointment he should not have left himself so open for so called “victimisation” as being propagated.
Nigerian Legal profession can not also see itself as being above the law , it is shocking that the Nigerian Bar Association President and the CJN are both facing corruption cases, the legal profession like other professions need to look inward and do some house cleaning.
Dangerous precedence, by ethicising anti-corruption campaign, let it not come as a shock if when we have a southerner as President and a Northern CJN is found culpable his own people may threaten to shut down Nigeria. We can decide to go down that path or face challenges together
