- please feel free to share your way of studying if I didn’t include it
- I hope this helps you
- good luck with future exams :)
this is probably the most important/ most helpful study technique, condense your notes, you are more likely to remember a few words than a whole paragraph
colour co-ordinating your notes is a great way of helping your brain process certain information. for example: blue for key terms, yellow for equations, etc.. this way you don’t always see the colour you always write in
create a timetable of your lessons and then what to do outside lessons, this helps you know when and for how long you are going to study a subject for, you can then organise your free time around study
have different folders or notebooks for each subject, either get different coloured ones or label them, this helps with your organisation
this is the one you enjoy the most but is actually the most important. free time allows your mind to relax from concentrating for a period of time, only short breaks though
do not sit down and study for 2 hours at a time without a break, your brain can only take in so much information at a time and concentrate for short periods of time too, you won’t remember half of what you read
these are a great way of testing yourself to see if you know what the answer to a question is, you can ask your friends and family to ask the questions and you answer them, this will put you on the spot, if you don’t know it, go back over it
mindmaps are great for putting all the information you need to remember on one piece of paper and you get to visually see the whole topic/ unit in one place too
do these on the computer, these are great for again seeing all the information you need in one area and they are great to look at when it’s approaching the exam dates
put on your teaching cap and deliver a speech about the topic you are studying, this makes you go over notes but also remember them to teach someone correctly, I did this with my mum and it helped me so much
these allow you to see the style of questions that have been asked to students in the past, you also learn the mark schemes and see what the examiner is looking for in your answers
do not leave a question blank in the exam, you are going to get no marks if you leave it blank but if you put something, you may receive a mark (especially questions that mark you on your SPAG)
in exams, you are given time to COMPLETE the paper, don’t sit there doing nothing, go back over your answers and re-read the questions, you may have missed something important or a question
don’t start studying a subject a month before the exam, you will not only panic but info will not go in, study (at the VERY least) 3 months before the exam, therefore you do not panic and you have time to ask teachers if you do not understand something
ask for help if you don’t understand something, it can literally be anyone who knows the subject; a teacher, family, friends, group chats, twitter, Wikipedia, google, etc...
this includes music, phones, tv, etc.. this literally doesn’t help you at all, for example if you are listening to music, your brain will focus on the song, not the work you are trying to remember, especially if the song is catchy
these can be stuck anywhere around your room or house so when you walk to the fridge for example, you see a key word and the definition, this way you are taking in that information constantly, making you more likely to remember it
there are certain apps that allow you to track your study time, create flash cards or specialise in the subjects you are trying to study for, these are great to help you further
use record or voice record to record you saying the information, then listen to it over and over again, this is great for those who best remember by speech
create a checklist of the contents in each topic and make sure you cover them all in your revision, then test yourself, then label them using traffic light
this is red, orange and green (red for you don’t understand at all, orange for you know it but you are unsure and green for you understand it) this will help you prioritise the things you don’t understand
use these to help you visualise what you’re learning, and then you can draw them at the side of your exam paper (CROSS THEM OUT THOUGH) and help you construct/ explain your answer
good lighting in the room you are studying in can actually help increase your productivity
make sure you get enough sleep so your concentration is at its best when you’re studying, it’s recommended you get 8-10 hours of sleep nearing exam season
don’t just memorise the information, make sure you understand it, this way you are more likely to be able to explain it effectively in the exam
use the margins in your school books and a different colour and write a summary of what is on each page
ask your teacher what you are going to be doing or learning next lesson and then go away and read up on it, this helps you understand the lesson better
read some information, then cover it and write down what you remember from what you read, overtime the quantity of what you’re writing will increase and how long you remember the information for will increase
