What does it mean to “merit” acceptance at an elite college? For most, it means going to top high schools, taking SAT prep programs and having time / resources for extracurriculars. This study shows that those without such privileges can still excel. Merit needs to be redefined.
“Nearly half of all college students (49.2 percent) start their college education at a community college, the report notes, but only about 5 percent of those who enroll in at the most competitive colleges started at community colleges.”
”This is a "skewed representation" that means the most elite colleges are missing out on many talented students, the report said. And the more competitive a college, the less likely it is to enroll community college transfers.”
Time to remind Asian Americans who are “anti-Affirmative Action” that **48% of college AAPIs attend community colleges**:

So the low rate of transfer from CCs to elite schools is a bigger equity issue than undergrad admissions.

Like their peers, Asian American community college attendees are more likely to be low income, to have to work while schooling and to be from underrepresented ethnicities. Given all that, anyone who does well enough at CC to transfer to an elite school should be top of list.
But not a peep from 80-20 and other Asian anti-Affirmative Action groups on community college transfers, because they are funded by affluent Asians and tied to white conservative groups who see community college as welfare and elite school acceptance as prizes for the privileged.
