Today we remember the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Dr. King knew that we could not wait for progress or yield to injustice. He used protest and the power of the word to create change in our nation. 1/x
But we have not yet fulfilled the dream he so powerfully described. And in 2019, we must recommit ourselves to seeking freedom and justice. 2/x
We have the power to create change– by registering to vote, by volunteering in our communities, by speaking up when we witness a wrong or by stepping aside to give the silenced a chance to speak out. 3/x
Together, in big and small ways, we can forge a path forward and build a brighter tomorrow. 4/4

One big obstacle to compliance: lack of internet access. While Georgia lawmakers plot a way forward on solving our healthcare crisis, a timely reminder that rural broadband deficiencies + high cost in urban areas are real impediments for the poor.
Healthcare coverage should not be yoked to job prospects, but the travesty is made worse with incompetence in an administration or failure to address basic infrastructure concerns.

I am so proud of the movement we built. Together, we redefined the politics of possible in the Deep South – but our fight is far from over. #gapol
When we kicked off our campaign in Albany almost a year and a half ago, we were told we would never win the Democratic primary. When we did, the pundits and pollsters said that a candidate like me in a state like Georgia would never poll above 30%. We did.
And when they said this race would be a walk for Republicans, they shifted Georgia from “Safe Republican” to “Lean Republican” to “Toss Up” in the same breath.

Beyond the pundits, beyond the polls, and beyond party labels, we fought because we believe in Georgia.

Schools don't teach that #MartinLutherKing began the Poor People's Campaign, believed in Americans having a universal guaranteed income, and stood vehemently against the "evils" of capitalism and the Vietnam War. His dream went so exceedingly beyond "content of character".

C'est fou comment beaucoup d'auteur.e.s traitent super mal les luttes sociales dans leurs oeuvres. Particulièrement quand ce sont des personnes qui sont privilégiées et ne sont donc pas concernées par celles-ci, et encore plus quand il s'agit de fantasy/sf.
(Souvent les mêmes mondes de fantasy/sf où le racisme a disparu sauf pour les espèces non humaines et dont j'ai déjà dis ce que je pensais ici. )
Le point de départ de cette réflexion a été le dernier plot twist de Steven Universe où l'on découvre que Rose est en fait Pink Diamond, transformant ce personnage en pure fantasme de white savior : puisque c'est une dominante qui devient la leader de la rébellion des dominées.

Martin Luther King, Jr. spent every day of his life knowing that a bullet may come from out of nowhere and his life would end.
So every word mattered.
And every word did.
That kind of bravery is beyond uncommon...
and it's that kind of bravery that moves US as a people forward.
We need that kind of bravery now. We are up against an evil that is unparalleled in American History. We are so used to being dosed with the opiate of the masses that we've lost all sense of reality.
This man is going to destroy all of humanity if we don't stop him.
All of the good of humanity needs to join hands and stop this evil from destroying humanity.
It's crazy that it has come this far this fast but anyone watching knows it has. This is insane. Evil is now in control and we need to acknowledge it.
And we need to fight back.

The division will enforce a new HHS rule, coming soon, reportedly giving an out to doctors, clinicians, etc. who don't want to treat LGBTQ patients or provide reproductive health care (abortion, yes, but also birth control and potentially much more). #LicensetoDiscriminate
