There was no plan B for a Hillary loss. Macron has no plan B for a rejection of environmental taxes. The future was once a definite thing. It was too big to fail.
This was why the liberal justices didn't retire early enough to allow Obama to appoint replacements. This was why Paris was never ratified, nor the Iran deal. There was no rush. Hillary would win.
No one predicted Brexit. Nor the Yellow Vests. Nor the Donald. These were so unlikely they weren't worth hedging against.
But that's water over the dam. The big mystery is what else are we dead certain of that might not show up.
