There is a ton of talk about the 800,000 federal employees and the Coast Guard being impacted by this shutdown but there has only been a couple of stories about the devastating effects on government contractors and other associated businesses.
This story from the WSJ yesterday points out that most of their invoices for November work were not processed so you are now looking at essentially a whole quarter of unpaid work. The shutdown missed work won't be paid for. So what happens? wsj.com/articles/shutd…
Well...many small ones are going to fail. Hundreds of thousands of people will lose their jobs. Small business loans and even worse these horrible "alternative lending" loans will all be defaulted on. This will endanger banks and SBA will have to pay out the guarantees they made.
The government will open back up and all of the contractors that made much of the day-to-day work happen will not come back. It will cost millions to cover that work...then issue new RFP's and then there won't be companies to even answer the contracts.
This could potentially lead to a massive realignment in the government contracting space that won't be recovered from for years. Don't be fooled by the idiot pundits saying this is good to "downsize the government" like the jackass anonymous OpEd the Daily Caller ran.
This could trigger an economic collapse as bad or worse than 2008...and why? Why is this happening? Because Trump's pathetic ego is being stroked by idiots like Coulter and Limbaugh and Rasputin's like Miller and Mulvaney inside the White House telling him this is working.
This is a complete betrayal of their Constitutional duties and McConnell is complicit in making this continue. If they collapse the economy over a ridiculous wall we cannot forget who did this and they must be run out of office forever. End Rant.
