Time to start a fourth book...a longstitch book with a leather wrap case. These have very little inherent structure, but they open really easily, and so make really good journals.
I’m going to use this leather. The top side is...OK, but the flesh side shows the marks of a pretty drastic finishing process. I like it. It’ll be the visible cover of the book.
Signatures punched, leather marked for punching.
Here we go!
First signature, showing the pattern. (The loop will be part of a chain and will be drawn tight.)
Second signature. Thread through the loop, loop drawn tight.
Third signature...chain stitch begun.
All the way along...but I.m not done yet.
Changing colors...
Two color spine...I think I want a little more.
Three colors. I like this.
Added a fastener. That’s, as they say, a wrap.
Last but not least, the longstitch binding.
Leather wrap binding, 15cm x 10.5 cm (31 cm fully open) x 2cm.
Linen stitching. Closure of dyed cow bone and leather cord.
Some more views of my little friend.
