There is class snobbery on twitter. Those inside the bubble look down their nose at us outsiders - call us names like trolls, haters, brokens - basically implying we have no right to an opinion on politics and we don’t know what we’re taking about. A thread.
When we say ‘no we don’t like Kelly O’Dwyer because she used her power in ways that hurt the community’ we’re told we’re too one-eyed and if we just ‘knew her personally’ we wouldn’t be so ‘mean’.
We don’t know O’Dwyer personally because we’re not in the bubble. So this is just another way of saying ‘you don’t understand politics because you’re not in the bubble’.
What never occurs to this class of tweeter is that us outsiders only see O’Dwyer’s policies and public communication in her powerful role as member of Liberal government. This is all we have to judge her by and we have every right to judge as HER CAREER IMPACTS OUR LIVES.
Perhaps those on the inside of the bubble need to spend a little more time outside it and then you’ll see politics for what it is - not a game of personalities but as real life consequences on millions of Australians.
We’re being told O’Dwyer did great things for women. Those outside the bubble are contesting this simplified narrative. From where we sit O’Dwyer did nothing for gender equity. Speaking out against Liberal sexism doesn’t impact OUR LIVES.
Just think before you look down your nose at people on Twitter. You claim to know everything about what is happening on the inside, fine. Have fun. We know everything that is going on on the outside and judging O’Dwyer from out here, we’re thrilled to see her go. End.
