This language from Mueller in the Cohen sentencing memo has always puzzled me. "Beginning with the second meeting" with Mueller's team...Cohen has "taken care not to overstate" his knowledge. 
Pure speculation here, but maybe Cohen said something incriminating of Trump in first interview then walked it back in subsequent interviews. More speculation: maybe BuzzFeed's sources weren't briefed on the subsequent interviews.
We've always assumed, I think, that Cohen gave more incriminating information as his interactions with Mueller went on. Maybe instead he gave more incriminating information up front and got out over his skis.
