DOJ says that a lawyer for Skadden Arps (known to be Greg Craig) reached out to a news outlet in Dec. 2012 to provide a report about Ukrainian opposition leader Yulia Tymoshenko. NYT has this article which quotes Craig: nytimes.com/2012/12/13/wor…
Craig falsely claimed that the reporters contacted him. But DOJ says he actually planted the story w/ the reporters. The whole thing is quite dastardly...
Skadden Arps was hired by Manafort, who was working for a party affiliated with Yanukovych. They wanted to smear Tymoshenko. But the Skadden Arps report on her (which was previewed to NYT) was quite clever.
The Skadden Arps report claimed Tymoshenko's legal rights were infringed on at trial. But overall, they found strong evidence against her. So it looked like they weren't out to get he, even though they actually were.

This language from Mueller in the Cohen sentencing memo has always puzzled me. "Beginning with the second meeting" with Mueller's team...Cohen has "taken care not to overstate" his knowledge.
Pure speculation here, but maybe Cohen said something incriminating of Trump in first interview then walked it back in subsequent interviews. More speculation: maybe BuzzFeed's sources weren't briefed on the subsequent interviews.
We've always assumed, I think, that Cohen gave more incriminating information as his interactions with Mueller went on. Maybe instead he gave more incriminating information up front and got out over his skis.

David Corn is pushing back on insinuations that James Baker was a source for him regarding his dossier reporting. A couple of points: motherjones.com/politics/2019/…
There's no reason to doubt Corn's specific denial. Instead, Corn's initial Oct. 31, 2016 report used StateDept official Jonathan Winer as a confirming source. Winer was in contact w/ Steele, FBI and Glenn Simpson.
Oddly, Corn also provided a copy of the dossier to Baker *after* his report came out. Corn says it was in hopes of getting someone at FBI to talk. He says they didn't. But can't figure out why Corn would need to give FBI a document it already had.

Lisa Page told Congress that FBI moved "quickly" to obtain a FISA against Carter Page for "operational reasons," according to a transcript leaked to @EpochTimes dailycaller.com/2019/01/11/lis… @dailycaller
Lisa Page said that FBI began pursuing a FISA against Carter Page about a month before it was finally granted on Oct. 21, 2016. That means the FBI had the Steele dossier for mere days before it began seeking the FISA.
We already knew dossier was unverified when FBI used it, but this timeline shows they had virtually no time at all to check out the Carter Page allegations.
