Nature @nature article on flourishing in academia after being denied tenure. Most people understandably don't want to talk about this, so I get a lot of quotes in there.

My best quote was that the people at Chicago who denied me tenure (without any prior warning) "just weren't that smart." But they didn't include that one in the article. Perhaps for the best.
Being denied tenure is a life-twisting thing, and there's no one best strategy for dealing with it. It's okay to recommit to your academic goals, or to try something completely different. Take the opportunity to have your mid-life crisis a little bit early.
