You know, at first this week seemed boring. Then tokenized donuts took over a community, Messari went to war, Venezuela’s oppo leader was recognized by the US, and everyone on CT started yelling about "crypto law."

2/ It’s Sunday morning, so let’s talk donuts🍩Long story short, it was an accidental experiment in tokenized online reputation, that ended up showing off DEXes, deploying a Harberger Tax and highlighting some challenges with holdings-based governance
3/ @brian_armstrong even chimed in, so I think we can safely assume $DONUT is coming to @Coinbase.

In all seriousness though, I think Brian connecting the dots between Donuts and a larger shift in attention economies is right on.

Note: MC is not always the best metric for valuation purposes. Also, most altcoins/ico's have not yet survived an extended bear market. Missing this critical validation period, this serves more as a tool to observe where the market is in its current price cycle 2/

2/ When I meet with legacy investors I often get asked “who in the world owns this stuff?” This is usually followed by “ok, and who will?”

What these people *really* want to understand is potential future demand, or the classic concept of Total Addressable Market (TAM).
3/ A few weeks ago I came across this survey from @ING_news -->


It caught my eye because for the first time I can remember - due to results and sample size (14,828) - I have what I need to build a data-driven base to start determining potential TAM.

0/ Let's talk about @Ripple litigation & the slow journey toward answering the question: "is #XRP a security?"

Before you ask, I don't plan to discuss my own opinion on this issue. I'd rather leave that to the courts, as I'll explain here.

1/ Ripple is currently defending four cases in California courts:

- Two state cases in San Mateo County, brought by plaintiffs Zakinov & Oconer
- Two federal cases in the Northern District of California, brought by Coffey & Greenwald

All four cases are securities class actions.
2/ The plaintiffs allege basically the same thing: XRP is a security and Ripple violated state & federal law by failing to register it before offering, promoting, and selling it to retail investors.

1/ Why is #crypto falling so much in 2018? Because in 2017 the market was up > 30x, but adoption (beyond investing & trading) wasn’t concurrently up 30x.
2/ One can try to explain each fluctuation, but these explanations are frequently stories we tell ourselves, stretching to add reason to traders driving a bear market.
3/ The macro story I tell myself is “financial reality” divorced from utility fundamentals in 2017, and so we have to (expectedly) course correct.
