I take no position on US involvement, but this is idiotic. "Let the people determine their future" - well they bloody can't, they are ruled by a dictatorship. That's what makes it a dictatorship - that the people can't choose their future. If they could, it would be a democracy.
Look, I understand those who are skeptical about US involvement, given its terrible foreign policy track record. But I wish they at least *tried* to pretend to care about the Venezuelans who have suffered (and continue to suffer) under Maduro's dictatorship.
Like, it's one thing to say: "We wholeheartedly support your struggle for freedom, and we won't let our government stand in its way". Instead we get basically "we don't care, you're not any of our business" said in 1000 different ways.
Like, I actually believe it's possible to at least pretend that dictatorship is bad, even as you oppose "foreign intervention". It's one thing to say "I'm afraid we'll do more harm than good", it's another to say "I don't care about your pain or your dictator's crimes".
