Is there a piece that explains (such as these things can ever be explained) the logic of who's being laid off at BuzzFeed? Entire desks seems both drastic and purposeful

TAPS GLASS: Facebook, Twitter, Google bought acquiescence of biggest media companies—not tech reporters, but companies themselves—by promising to help them. Now that that has been revealed to be utter bullshit, I hope those companies dedicate more reporters to exposing their BS.
Those companies were fine, btw, when the platforms played favorites, so long as they were the favorites.

But, ok, water under the bridge. Now turn the FULL FORCE of your newsrooms on the monopolistic, utterly reckless, feckless democracy destroying power of the platforms.
Those of us not offered "help" in pivoting to video or all the other total crap the platforms have slung may be better off for being frozen out. Anyway, this is why journos MUST interrogate the priorities of their own companies and partnerships.

Things I recommend for submitting talk idea:

0️⃣You should tell people that you are "interested in speaking about [fill in your interest] " this can be friends, coworkers, person who sit next to at meetup etc. Can not stress how many opportunity came up because I stated interest
1️⃣(w/ people who are in your field, like JavaScript or WebDev) bounce ideas like... "I was thinking of doing X"

Those conversation usually yield to "would be cool if you can~" or "I wanted to know~" now you have more things to address in proposal other than "I really like X"
2️⃣Now you found a topic that seems other people would be interested in. Often scope is larger than what can fit in 30min talk, think about which one you want to spend more time.

Then write proposal. Check what info they ask you & if there is word limit on submission form.

Things I like from today’s poll data: Despite crazy spending by Prop 112 opponents, it still seems to have support? Fingers crossed on anti-fracking.
Things I don’t like: Amendment 74 has even *stronger* support, and guys, this is a TERRIBLE amendment. VOTE NO, oh my god, this is such a bad idea.
*So* many laws and regulations change property values.

Among other things, this will make financially impossible the vast majority of state environmental regulations.

My direct team members have all made it known that it's okay to overly bother them, even for minute details, when I'm stuck or need clarification.

It's nice to know they are expecting AND encouraging it.

Every person I met on-site for my orientation week was kind and engaging. I was flabbergasted that folks would put down their work simply to say hi and engage in conversation for more than a couple minutes.
