TAPS GLASS: Facebook, Twitter, Google bought acquiescence of biggest media companies—not tech reporters, but companies themselves—by promising to help them. Now that that has been revealed to be utter bullshit, I hope those companies dedicate more reporters to exposing their BS.
Those companies were fine, btw, when the platforms played favorites, so long as they were the favorites.

But, ok, water under the bridge. Now turn the FULL FORCE of your newsrooms on the monopolistic, utterly reckless, feckless democracy destroying power of the platforms.
Those of us not offered "help" in pivoting to video or all the other total crap the platforms have slung may be better off for being frozen out. Anyway, this is why journos MUST interrogate the priorities of their own companies and partnerships.
This piece was written a few weeks before the layoffs, but it is background that might help you understand the role of Facebook (and platforms more generally) in the loss of so many journalism jobs this week, last decade. motherjones.com/media/2018/12/…
