Brexiters talk as if they’re a movement (agreed outcomes, internal debate), but aren’t they more like a fan club (I love this, and everyone who loves it shares my love) >
I see lots of Brexiters on Twitter - but I rarely see them recognise the *indisputale fact* that other Leave voters had very different reasons & expectations from theirs. >
Leave’s bare majority in EUref puts Brexiters in permanent crisis. They claim to speak for a confident nationalist Britain, but can’t explain why almost half of “Great Brits” didn’t share their dream. >
... and of course they are (correctly) concerned that they wouldn’t get 52% a second time. Which is why they have to present 2016 vote as excluding any further referendum.

I remember first learning of the Holocaust. Aged 9, precocious reader, raised in political house. Sunday Times anniversary splash (30 yrs since end of WWII?). I read the piece, saw the pictures.

I hadn’t known.

Still remember the anger, the hot tears: “why didn’t you tell me!”
I’d known the world was a place where really bad stuff happened.

But that was when I realised how bad - though I also understood that people’s choices can prevent these things.

- EU citizens holding a valid passport as an EU cit
- non-EU cits issued a UK residence card (permanent or not, and even if expired) under UK's EEA Regs, on an application made after 6 April 2005 2/

When I was a legal intern at the SEC, we received a huge box one day with tons of CDs that contained recordings of internal phone conversations. Sent by an anonymous former employee of that company. 🍿

FYI in 2018 alone, the SEC awarded over $168 million to 13 whistleblowers.
For some context: the whistleblower program was created in 2012. Since creation, over $326 million has been awarded.

This year, the SEC received over 5,200 whistleblower tips. The $168 million award figure this year exceeds the total amount awarded in all prior years combined.
I think @jchervinsky is 100% on point (as always!).

Startups (as a lot of crypto companies are) generally have messier operations and undocumented/ unstated internal policies and procedure. Probably tons of confidential information & documents at the hands of former employees.

The article (and many other discussions about research quality) presents this as ivory tower disputes among academics. Often overlooked are the people who consume psych research (incl clinicians) and those who rely on it being correct (our clients and the general population).
Research findings have real world implications. Finding errors in some cute research like infinite soup-bowls is important, but errors in clinical research have life and death implications.

Lots of typos today. I despise touchscreens & auto-NOT-correct. Glad Twitter doesn't allow edits but definitely realizing this week has taken a toll, mentally & physically. I won't be able to sustain posting like this for much longer. But it's such a BIG week, it's hard to stop.

My body is the only part of me that experienced EVERYTHING. I refuse to make it endure anything it doesn't want to now. So if you see less of me for a bit don't worry, I'm here. Just realizing I've overdone it the last few days. It's all worth it though! What a time to be alive.

Let me add to my running post-block-post-block spree before more people insist on self-blocking by arguing with me:

Paying attention to shiny objects actually hurts substantive candidates.

It steals media attn. It starves people of substance from having a chance to rise.

Getting a collective chubby over Michael Avenatti or Oprah or The Rock or Trump or Mark Cuban or any other woefully unqualified pop culture figure actually does damage.

It sets a “likability” bar higher than REALLY qualified candidates can reach - even though that’s damaging.

That suggests people voting against their will but that’s not how an influence operation works. To be effective it does the following things: ...
1. It plays to existing biases with a view to reinforcing and minimising opportunity and motivation to confront them. So if you are concerned that demand from migrants for services may adversely affect you, that is what it tells you is happening.
