At oral arguments today SCOTUS conservative justices terrified of every vote counting equally. They kept invoking fear of "proportional representation" to justify extreme gerrymandering. If NC/MD maps stand gerrymandering will be even worse in 2021 motherjones.com/politics/2019/…
In 2018 NC Dems won 49% of votes but Republicans won 75% of House seats. "I propose we draw maps to give a partisan advantage to 10 Republicans & 3 Democrats, because I do not believe it’s possible to draw a map with 11 Republicans & 2 Democrats,” said GOP legislative leader
Gorsuch & Kavanaugh cited success of state-level ballot initiatives creating independent redistricting commissions as reason SCOTUS didn’t need to curb partisan gerrymandering. They didn’t mention 4 conservative justices voted to gut independent commissions in 2015

1. We are offered two distinctly different messages in response to the political actions and climate of the Trump era. Two fundamental philosophies that will shape the course of our country:

We Are Better Than This
vs.
It Doesn't Matter, We Won
2. One, an optimistic appeal to the integrity of the people of our country, offers hope for the future. The other hints at a slippery slope with no bottom. The end justifies the means no matter the cost. I find it doubtful this dark message is what Republicans teach their kids
3. There's no daylight between Trump and #GOP leaders who've have had 2+ years to decide who they are - those of character have already left the party. The rest have gladly molded themselves into Trump’s vision, fully embracing fear-mongering, nationalism, division and lies.

@davidfrum @TheAtlantic This has nothing to do with enforcement. The president is claimig the immigrants coming to our country are some kind of ‘liberal plot’ or somehow associated with the Democratic party - this is a lie. Democrats want border enforcement too - we just don’t think a wall makes sense.
@davidfrum @TheAtlantic You of all people should recognize that this entire story is a propaganda piece being used by the President & his alt-reich pals to create a kind of xenophobic fury in order to get more votes for the midterms. There’s a discussion re enforcement but this is a false narrative.
@davidfrum @TheAtlantic The majority of Dem voters are in favor of border enforcement- it’s just not high on the list of priorities given the current state of our country/ politics. Democratic leaders have voted for stronger border enforcement very recently & have been pushing for immigration reforms.

1. #GOP leadership must quit pushing the talking point that Russia's attack on the 2016 election didn't actually impact the election results - there is no basis for that statement. That misrepresentation may serve the GOP and DT's ego, but it does NOT serve the American people.
2. If the people of this country are to prepare themselves for additional foreign attacks and protect themselves from these nefarious actors, then they must fully understand the extent and impact of Russia's cyber-espionage and assault on our democracy.
3. Further, as the indictments and trials from Mueller's probe ensue, the role the #GOP played in aiding and abetting this attack will unfold. Now, is the time to begin righting these wrongs, not self-servingly watering down the impact and fleeing accountability.

The @CDCgov cites 133M as the number of chronically-ill Americans who have #cancer, like I do, or another illness that impedes their daily lives.

The majority of that 40% of the US population still have to work despite often disabling illness because we cannot afford not to.

When you're in your 20s writing about other 20somethings dying, it changes you.

Then I got #breastcancer at 26.
