Did y’all know that according to the Bible, hoarding generational wealth is immoral? Every 7 years all debts must be forgiven. Every 50 years, wealth is redistributed - ALL LANDS GO BACK TO THE ORIGINAL OWNERS (ahem), slaves/indentured servants are freed, people in jail are freed

It’s called Yovel or the Year of Jubilee. It’s funny, cause I heard “Year of Jubilee” talked about in church a lot, but not in regards to it’s real meaning - social justice. It was just about being happy because of Jesus, I guess. But Jesus’s whole point was social justice.

Back to Yovel/Jubilee. Redistribution of wealth was considered imperative to healthy society. Accumulate wealth during your life? Good for you, enjoy it while you can. But it’s not forever & not for your grandchildren who didn’t earn it. Neither is poverty

This is the most rational way of doing things I’ve ever heard. Intergenerational poverty is so counterintuitive to progress. Why would a people keep a segment of society unable to reach its full potential? That’s a waste of our greatest resource - human intellect.

The only way to justify doing such a thing is to say that those people are biologically inferior, unalterably. Which according to the Bible, is also an immoral way to think about people.

And why should rich people be riding off of the advantages that come from what their grandfather managed to do? (Esp when grandfathers were making money off of slave labor & stolen land, but lemme be quiet 🤐)

Where is the justice in that? And doesn’t God demand justice?

Now granted, this is “Old Testament” stuff. Based on the old Jewish economic system. That’s what they will say.

But of course, these churches have no problem bringing up that Old Testament stuff when they are telling you to TITHE 10% to them.
