Something I'm super excited about: the magic team at @resistbot has created a new feature. Text "Wikler" to 50409 and you'll join a text list I manage, so I can send you alerts when there's something going down where you can help fight. (I promise: I'll be careful w your time!)
@putorti, Chief Botmaker and general bot-based activism mastermind, and his team have been turning out brilliant new features—so if you've never used Resist.bot or if it's been a while, you should check it out now.
Here's one amazing feature of @resistbot that could lead to stuff like, oh, health insurance coverage for hundreds of thousands of people: the ability to channel messages to your state legislators. Like right here in Wisconsin. Text "state" to 50409.
When you send a message with @resistbot—which works via SMS, Twitter DM, Facebook Messenger, and Telegram—you then have the option of authorizing an open letter version of your message via @openletterbot, to inspire others to write. That timeline = reminder you're not alone.
Here, for example, is the open letter version of the message I just sent to @RepStubbs (my awesome new State Rep) and @SenRisser (who is awesome and is America's longest-serving legislator):
Here in Wisconsin, @GovEvers, @TheOtherMandela, the @AssemblyDemsWI and the @WisDems State Senators are gearing up to fight to expand Medicaid. Republicans' constituents want it. Their elected officials, so far, refuse. So we're going to have to mobilize. And mobilize we will.
As the fight for health care unfolds, if you've texted "wikler" to 50409, I'll be able to send you alerts when there are critical moments to make calls, send messages, or attend protests. And by signing up, you'll also help beta-test this new feature.
And, of course, I'll also use the "wikler" @resistbot list (which you can join by DMing "wikler" to @resistbot) to flag moments for action nationwide as well. So even if you're not lucky enough to live in Wisconsin yet, this list is for you.
