ok so
how can my xcapture1 and an LCD monitor show different pictures from an HDMI source, and the xcap is *cropping*

it's fucking digital

there's no INTERPRETATION of DIGITAL

the length of a frame is not subject to interpretation
i get that the xcap can't fit the uncompressed data over usb3 and has to process it, but "how many rows and columns" is in the hdmi handshake. it's not like vga where you have to guess at resolution and then try to sample on time and land on pixel boundaries and shit
analog video is a mess but an HDMI receiver is basically a fucking shift register, how the HELL can it get this very basic thing wrong without just churning out completely scrambled frames due to losing bit sync
my understanding is you literally can't have an HDMI connection unless the devices both know that each other agree on the format and resolution so how can this happen, literally ever, unless the xcap is deliberately throwing out good data after receiving it
how could an HDMI recipient receive 500 lines of a 525 line signal and just.. not process the rest? the decoder chip is like "okay here's the next line" and the processor is just like NAH BRAH I'M GOOD? what does it think that extra data is? spares? sauce packets?
