what's really infuriating to me is that there's this tactic of jumping to the worst possible conclusion, hinting toward it and not posting about it, and then taking no responsibility for their followers coming away with exaggerated conclusions
i mostly just pay attention to this when they do it about ~~~russian bots~~~ because it is closest to my areas of interest and expertise
but it's a lot like the gamergate-y tactics where people will point at someone and be like "i'm just critiquing!" and having 0 responsibilities for the resulting harassment, except it's believing in conspiracy nonsense instead of harassment that they absolve themselves of
like it is clear that there is way too much incentive to mislead and provoke an out-of-control, outsized audience
and that's not something unique to any political group, i see it from trans clique twitter, from resistance twitter, from chapo trap house twitter, etc in addition to from the post-gamergate ian miles cheong style losers
