In the next few tweets, I will highlight some of the great steps taken by Indian govt since 2014 towards improving the health status of the population. Much has been said about how little we spend, but no one is interested in looking at the great progress that is being made.
A disproportionate number of people who needed heart/vascular surgeries and joint replacement either avoided surgeries to end up with dire consequences or underwent surgeries to end up in poverty! Despite my initial skepticism with capping prices, this seems to have woked well.
Prescription medicines for chronic diseases like diabetes, hypertension, asthma, epilepsy, post-stroke and post-heart attack cost much lesser now than they did before 2014. A post-heart attack patient with diabetes who would spend 3k/month now saves on an average 20k/year!

The new protem speaker of Karnataka assembly, K G Bopaiah has been 4 times BJP MLA from Virajpet in Kodagu. He has served as speaker during BSY’s tenure, was instrumental in saving the BJP govt when BSY faced imminent loss of trust motion in 2010-11
In October 2010, 11 BJP MLAs including Balachandra Jarakiholi, Belur Gopalkrishna, & S K Bellubbi along with 5 independents(including Gulihatti Shekhar who is now a BJP MLA) who had been dropped from the cabinet had rebelled against BSY & had withdrawn their support to Govt!
BJP had won 110 seats in 2008 & had formed the govt with the help of 6 ind MLAs(5 of them were made ministers). But by Oct-08, BJP’s strength had risen to 121 due to ‘Operation Kamala’. The ind MLAs were dropped from cabinet. These along with disgruntled BJP MLAs staged a coup!

A small statistic from yesterday’s results:
BJP lost 26 seats with less than 6000 votes. 13 of those with margins less than 4000. It lost Maski with mere 213 votes, Hirekerur with 555 votes, Kundagol with 634 votes. If it had won even a few of these seats, it would’ve touched 113
Along with this, in some of the seats, BJP lost purely due to its rebel candidates.
1. Bailahongala in Belgaum. Ex MLA Jagadeesh Metgud rebelled against official candt V I Patil. Metgud polled 42k votes while Patil got 37k. Cong’s Kaujalgi won the seat by polling 47k votes!
2. In Indi in Bijapur, BJP official candt Dayasagar Patil polled 31k votes and came 3rd. BJP rebel Ravikant Patil got 39k votes. Cong’s YV Patil emerged as winner with 50k votes.

3. Jamakhandi- BJP lost by just 2795 votes. BJP rebel Sangamesh Nirani polled 24k votes!

Don't let #polls determine whether or not you vote. Don't assume a victory or a loss based on current polling. Why? Because they are inherently flawed, and not truly reflective of a whole group of people of any sort. (more)
2/ Polls have two major aspects: Sample and Methodology. These are the parameters that define how the poll is taken and how accurately it reflects a population.
3/ Let's start with sample, also called sample size. It tells you how many people are polled to get the results. Most of the big polls you see in the news have a sample size somewhere around a thousand. This works for the pollsters, because it's a manageable

Ikaika Erik Kang, 35, a Sergeant First Class in the U.S. Army stationed at Schofield Barracks, pleaded guilty today in federal court to four counts of attempting to provide material support to the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS),
a designated foreign terrorist organization. Kang was indicted on terrorism charges on July 19, 2017. As part of a plea agreement reached with the United States, Kang agreed to serve 25 years in prison and at least 20 years, and up to life, of supervised release.
