A lie that won't die is using Art24 GATT in the event of no deal.

The dangerous fallacy that the UK can leave the EU on 29/3 with no deal & carry on trading as normal for up to 10 years must be ķilled off...

It is the foundations of Pro-Brexit protagonist's claims that it is safe for the UK to crash out on WTO tariffs.

Arch-Brexiteers like Dick Tice claim 'people could carry on pretty much as is' for 10 yrs. Trade experts/lawyers dismiss this as 'utter nonsense' - it is!

Tice's use of 'pretty much' here is endemic of the wholesale disingenuity used by Brexiteers since the ref campaign.

Technically 24 GATT (WTO) does permit interim agreements but both sides must 1st agree on the PROCESS of negotiating a deal - in this case May's Withdrawal Agreement.

2nd both parties must agree an interim deal whilst the negotiations for a future deal are taking place.

There must be a binding plan within an agreed time-frame to create a future Treaty to use Art24.

If there is no deal the UK simply CANNOT TRADE USING Art24 GATT.

Without a WA the clause can't be used. There must be:

1 A WA
2 A timed plan
3 An interim deal

End of. Period
