Everyone at CNN even tangentially involved in this should feel ashamed.
I'm not worried about Howard Schultz making the most of this moment; he won't.

I'm annoyed that an unqualified asshole who couldn't string together a logical sentence on policy if his life depended on it is being given this space solely due to his being a white male billionaire.
Schultz isn't just unremarkable. That'd be common. That'd be him stealing ideas from qualified candidates and pawning them off as his own.

He's intellectually bankrupt. He has nothing to bring to the table. He doesn't even have superficial popularity.

Just a white guy w/ money.

What is the most physical pain you've ever felt? Not necessarily the most gruesome injury but the cause of the most acute, intense pain you've experienced?
No kidding, like half of these are either kidney stones or childbirth. Both sound awful.
My worst ever: when I was 12, I got my foot caught in lawnmower. It was a bizarre accident. I was pushing the mower forward over a rough patch with my foot (in a mountain boot, thank god) and there was a weird slip of the grass and under it went.

Interesting theory, @JeremyDBoreing! Let's do the math, which I think you'll find is remarkably illustrative on this topic and @AOC's story.

There are 435 seats in the House and 100 in the Senate, making for 535 federal legislative elected offices w/ voting power. (thread)
There are about 326 million people in the United States represented by those 535 elected officials. In a representative democracy, it is ideal that the legislative body serving the people would reflect the lived experiences of those people. Not so with the United States Congress.
According to the Census Bureau, white persons who are not Hispanic or Latino make up about 60.7 percent of our population. Persons identifying as male (though that's a whole other issue w/ proper LGBTQ representation) make up about 49.2 percent of the population.

.@BernieSanders Senator, this is a bad idea, and it's a bad look. I say this with respect: don't do this. Give @StaceyAbrams the stage tomorrow night. All of it.
I would say this to any elected official in Congress. Just don't do this, @BernieSanders. Please. You have a wonderful opportunity here to build some bridges and more importantly: allow for undivided attention to be given to @StaceyAbrams on a national stage. Please rethink this.
Just one day. That's all. Wait until the little hand does two complete cycles and have at it. Why is that so much to ask? Why is @BernieSanders choosing the same night as the first Black woman to deliver a State of the Union response? It is so damn disrespectful.

Howard Schultz isn't being bullied - he's being criticized, and sometimes mocked. If he can't take that, he shouldn't run. If he can take it but thinks it's good politics to play aggrieved, then he's more like Trump than he claims. /1

A police officer who, off duty, breaks and enters, and shoots an innocent man in his own home, does not deserve any of the special treatment we socially afford police officers for the performance of their duty.

It's not clear most Americans agree with this.
If you've ever tried a case where the police are even tangentially involved, you know that jurors -- theoretically ordinary people (actually the ones too dumb/bored/civic minded to escape) -- regardless of race, age, whatever, tend to defer to police. It's uncanny.
Also, if you find yourself thinking, "The People of Texas are so totally gonna agree with Mike Gerson," while this is not impossible, it's probably a good time to step back, get a fresh breath of air, clear your head, walk around, and think for a few moments.
