1/ Perhaps the most enraging aspect of the VA blackface scandal is the way some (not all or even most, but some) white liberals are saying things like, "well, I mean, it's the south, and we can't do much better than Ralph Northam in VA..." so we should accept it & move on...
2/ First off, to hell with you. Doug Wilder was better than this in VA and that shit was 30 years ago. Do better white people. Demand better. Second, the comment presumes whites must lead. But why not just back POC and avoid the bullshit of white racism altogether?...
3/ Third, if you think all southern whites are blackface wearing, KKK costume wearing assholes YOU'RE an asshole. Plenty of us who've been in the south all our lives and families go back 350+ years here know better...
4/ We actually can do better & when u hold white people to such a low standard you basically suggest that we can't help our racism..it's congenital. But if a POC said all whites were racists you'd lose yr mind...yet u just basically said it yourself, as a way to justify racism!
5/ Stop making excuses for inexcusable behavior. Plenty of us were raised right by parents who rejected ALL vestiges of the old south: the confederacy, the Klan, all of it...between those whites and POC we can build a new south. Screw these anachronistic old south throwbacks...
