@SonnieJohnson “Colorblindness presumes everyone shares the same set of problems, histories & racial experiences. It sees the nation as a meritocracy, assumes equality, and sidesteps the complexities of race.”

— Leah W. Rigueur is a Professor at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
@SonnieJohnson We can learn from these dissimilar struggles! There is nothing wrong with sharing true racial stories to t others who’ve never experienced them. That is powerful. Black, urban kids can learn a lot from white, Appalachian kids and that’s power, too
@SonnieJohnson Real issue: Is it coming from a place that contributes to an atmosphere of inclusivity; an inclusive society or does it contribute to an exclusive and racist society?

It’s a difference that makes the difference.
@SonnieJohnson Because “colorblindness presumes everyone shares the same set of problems” it is often indifferent and tone deaf to problems that white people largely don’t encounter!
@SonnieJohnson And it is THIS colorblind-indifference, not Sonnie being open and honest about the dissimilar racial experiences people encounter, which creates so many problems.

Sonnie is correct.
